Squat Jumps

Plyometric exercises were designed for developing explosive power but they can also be used in any workout. Squat jumps and other forms of body weight plyometrics are very commonly used in the most popular home workout program of all time the P90X. In addition to working explosive power plyometric exercises such as squat jumps are very effective at elevating your heart rate quickly. The major contraindication to squat jumps is any persistent knee problems which may be aggravated by the jumping. How you will integrate squat jumps in your exercise program depends on your goals. If you are looking to develop explosive jumping power you should perform them by jumping as high and explosively for each rep, if you are looking for the muscle burning effects you may want to focus on a smooth landing and quick transition in between each jump. Overall squat jumps are an effective, convenient and challenging exercise which can be used during any lower body workout.
