Foam Roll Push Ups

All forms of push-ups are great functional exercises and you can use a foam roll (which is most commonly used for self myofascial release) to slightly increase the difficulty. Although the foam roll slightly lessens the amount your body weight you must push for each rep, it is free to roll forward or backward. This instability must be controlled by various stabilizer muscles which increases the overall difficulty of foam roll push-ups as opposed to standard floor push ups. Yet another benefit of this push-up modification is placing the hands on the foam roll can be more comfortable on the wrists and hands than the floor.
