Leg Extensions

You will be hard pressed to find a gym or fitness center without a leg extension machine. The leg extension machine is the most common way to isolate the quadriceps muscles. The problem with leg extensions is it is not a functional exercise therefore is only useful for those who are looking to build the quadriceps for aesthetic reasons such as bodybuilders. With the notable exception of rehabilitation, the leg extension machine is not going to help you build functional strength of the quadriceps. If you are looking for functional strength you are better off doing any form of squats or lunges as leg extensions pale in comparison.
