The deadlift is one of the most important exercises to master for anyone
who is looking to get serious about weight/strength training. The deadlift
is possibly the most fundamental lift as it simply requires you to pick a
weight straight up from the floor. The old saying "lift with your legs and
not your back" can never be more true when performing the deadlift. Although
the lower back will always carry some of the load, correct form involves
using the legs just as much which is exactly what would be optimal in
real-life situations aka ADLs or Activities of Daily Living.
