Clapping push ups is an upper body plyometrics exercise which is primarily
used to train explosive upper body pushing power. The actual clapping part of
these plyometric push-ups is optional as it really only serves as a distraction
during the powerful push. Even though clapping push-ups are primarily for
improving explosive power they are great for working a specific type of type II
fast twitch muscle fiber. In theory, to build the pecs optimally, working all
muscle fibers will yield the best results and these clapping push-ups almost
exclusively work the fast twitch muscle fibers.
