Bench press on the foam roll is used primarily as a tool to help people learn
to retract, and stabilize their scapula (shoulder blades) during the bench
press. It can be extremely helpful for those with a protracted shoulder girdle,
or those who simply struggle on keeping the shoulder blades retracted during the
bench press. Because the foam roll can roll to one side or the other, it
is a good idea to use a spotter for this exercise.
